Background
Liberty mutual is an international insurance provider to vehicle, domestic and business clients. In 2011 Liberty insurance was 3rd largest in the Americas.
Description
This project included a complete removal of the existing roof and replacement with a new roofing system. Two types of roofing systems were used firstly, a combination of 2 ply Cold Process Built-Up plys and a finish ply of PVC hybrid. On this expanded polystyrene insulation was installed with the concrete paver's as the final surface. The second roofing system featured a cold process Built-Up roof and cap sheet. There was also a significant quantity of sheet metal on this project with the penthouse mechanical room fully covered with metal cladding.
This project was a logistical challenge due to its central location in down town Boston. The roof was located on the 11th floor almost entirely surrounded by neighboring buildings. The arrival and removal of waste and materials had to be carefully planned to minimize disruption to the street traffic. We used cranes up to 275 ton to hoist materials on and off the building. Due to the height of the roof elements Reliable Roofing ensured a safe working environment for our roofers and the street traffic by: installing a perimeter safety fence to protect the street from falling objects and our roofers were constantly harnessed in areas of minimal guard railings.
